Routes
Recently I’ve been taking part in a really cool thing called Routes. It’s a series of videos and games about Genetics and the like from the Wellcome Trust and Channel 4. I read somewhere that The Wellcome Trust is the largest charity, financially, in the UK which is kinda great considering all the good research into medicine they do (also I have loved the Wellcome wing at the Science Museum in London since they built it, at a time when it was age-appropriate). I’ve enjoyed the games and found the videos fascinating but what I’ve really been interested in is another darker, secret side to the project. It’s the mystery of the death of Markus Schoenberg a scientist who worked on the project. It raises lots of fascinating issues like biopiracy and has had me doing crazy stuff like ringing up a magazine to complain about them rejecting an article and thus trying to explain biopiracy to someone when I know very little about it myself. To sum it all up it’s a really great project and I would encourage you to try it out. If you need a little help I’ve been compiling a little list of interesting links that you can see here to help get you started.
