25 Things and Caving in

Copied this from Facebook for my non-Facebook friends. Unfortunately no friend tagging for you :-(

It’s late at night and I’m getting bored so I’ve decided to join the craze and write 25 things about me. Looking at other peoples’ efforts it seems like quite a marathon so I’ll try and keep it interesting and relevant even if that means I split it into two parts. BTW I couldn’t really be bothered about the tagging people bit so it is and alphabetical assortment but I’ve done it to stay true to the genre.
Voilá:

Rules: Once you’ve been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it’s because I want to know more about you.
(To do this, go to “notes” under tabs on your profile page, paste these instructions in the body of the note, type your 25 random things, tag 25 people (in the right hand corner of the app) then click publish.)

  1. I am an addict to my news feeds. I use Google Reader and “read” around 500 articles a day. In practise this means skim reading and then reading in full any I find interesting. Looking at the stats for the last 30 days the most I have “read” in one day is >1300 articles.
  2. I am one of those people who eat very unhealthily and remain ridiculously thin (50kg – yes, that’s in a way bragging but I deserve to once in a while). This in no way means I am sporty, I am in fact very unfit, but it does mean I have one less thing to worry about
  3. Having said that there are quite a few foods I don’t like. To list just a few of them: courgettes, canned tuna, anchovies, raw tomatoes, red cabbage, parsnip, lemon (it ruins so many nice dishes), mint, couscous, soggy cereal
  4. I am a bit of a geek and I do like comic books and I think they are generally underrated. Some I recommend: Maus, Blankets, Runaways, Fables, The Exterminators, The League of Extraordinary Gentleman, Watchmen, Y:The Last Man, The Eternals. I can lend most of these to you so do ask.
  5. I’m Christian and help run my school’s Christian Union. I am not a crazy right wing Christian and I believe a faith and science can coexist peacefully and in fact motivate one another. I will not go into my beliefs anymore here but it is something I am happy to and enjoy discussing.
  6. I booked my driving test about a week ago but I’m really annoyed as the soonest I could get was May 21st. For all of you yet to do it remember to get it done early, you can always change it.
  7. With it coming up so soon I can’t help but mention a play I’m in next week called Quaternary. It’s going to be awesome and you can find out more about it here.
  8. When I was young my favourite animal was the pig and I still have loads of toy pigs lying around. I no longer have a favourite animal but bacon is pretty awesome.
  9. I have never been content with my hair and have no idea what to do with it.
  10. I am a TV Addict and watch far too much of it. Currently watching: Dollhouse, 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, Greek, Smallville, The Wire, Heroes, Being Human, Hustle, Skins, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Cowboy Bebop, House, My Name Is Earl, Chuck, Pushing Daisies, Shameless, Battlestar Galactica, The Wire, Dexter. These are just some I have watched in the last week or so and are not a definitive list of my favourites.
  11. When I was at “prep” school I entered a Blue Peter competition to design a gadget but I think mine got rejected because it was too good (looked like an adult had done it). It had proper blueprints and was disguised as a digital camera featured an EMP bomb, ultra telescopic zoom, a GPS chip (before they were well known about), a flash which was actually a flash-bang and much more. I had so much fun designing it and didn’t even get a badge. Maybe one day I’ll actually make it.
  12. I feel shit and get angry and feel crap and get depressed just like everyone else but am just pretty, although not really, good at hiding it. I either am smiling inanely or furrowing my brow massively meaning I have, in my overly self-conscious mind, a far too wrinkled brow, not that worrying about it is going to help. People often ask me if I’m okay. Perhaps I’m rubbish at hiding it and this whole point is contradictory. I think the real point is that as teenagers we all get stressed and sometimes we need to let it out and sometimes we don’t but the most important thing to remember is that it’s normal and that most other people are dealing with it too (this is not in anyway to belittle people have serious depression problems and that should be taken seriously and you actually do have it worse off than the rest of us).
  13. Wow wasn’t the last point a really badly worded dodgy point in which I try and avoid tripping myself over and yet do it anyway. This leads on to how I am utterly socially inept and lack the capacity to talk at the right time when conversing with more than one person. I am rubbish at timing in conversations and as people will testify always end up talking when somebody else starts talking.
  14. I don’t dislike alcohol I just dislike most drinks. I don’t like fizzy drinks because the bubbles hurt my tongue (yes that is actually my reason) and I don’t like the taste of most alcoholic drinks. I normally end up mixing vodka with orange juice but really don’t take the whole drinking thing very seriously and can’t be bothered to spend too much of my money on it.
  15. I am partially deaf in my left ear. It sounds like it is underwater (everything is muffled and what not) but I am seeing a doctor it is probably curable.
  16. I don’t have a digital camera (except a crazy bridge super-zoom massive camera which is supposed to be to share between me and my sister but I can’t use properly and can’t be bothered in enough to learn so I just let her use it) which is surprising considering how much I am into my gadgets. I have vowed to myself that I will get one before university so not that long until I’m back to snapping bad photos.
  17. I wish I read more as I read a lot when I was younger and I really enjoy it but I can’t seem to find the time nowadays (which is a pathetic excuse).
  18. I must turn off wall plugs when I see them with nothing plugged in but switched on. Slightly OCD but it kinda makes sense.
  19. I shower in the morning which I think is a bit unusual (supposedly most people shower in the evening) but I suspect it is actually propably pretty evenly spread between morning and evening. Please do contribute to the discussion so I can find out if I’m a showering freak or not ;-)
  20. I like my family but don’t show it enough. My family really aren’t that bad but I seem to see them less and less and because of that the times when I do end up seeing them end up being arguments about what I haven’t done. I think as teenagers we don’t appreciate are parents enough but hopefully we’ll learn that before they die (okay that was slightly morbid but I think people do sometimes need to be reminded how awesome their parents are, even when they aren’t)
  21. I don’t really play video games which is unusual for a computing student. I kinda feel forced to by a sort of peer pressure and probably could spend the money that I do spend on video games on things I could enjoy more. I spend very little time doing serious gaming but I do play quite a few casual games on the ol’ iPhone.
  22. I have never been to America which is a bit of a pity but I hope to rectify eventually.
  23. I have never gone skiing which is also a pity but couldn’t really happen with my family so will once again have to wait until uni.
  24. I can count the number of times I have been to a pub (excluding with family for a meal) on my fingers just about which is a bit embarassing but is another thing that can be and will be easily rectified in due course.
  25. I won the Introducer’s Public speaking prize and my “prep” school by effectively ripping off the speech given in “A Knight’s Tale” before the jousting and everyone in the school seemed to know except the judge who thought it was really good and original and I ended up really embarassed when I got the prize.
